The Sonoma Coast, a world-renowned growing region southwest of the Russian River and just six miles from the Pacific Ocean is known worldwide for its cool-climate Pinot Noir and microclimates that contribute to slow grape maturation and optimum ripeness. Small lots of fruit were sourced from five exceptional Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley vineyards exclusively for Calstar Cellars Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.
A blend of five vineyards, this bottling includes vineyards heavily influenced by coastal weather through the Petaluma Gap and San Pablo Bay, as well as warmer sites along the banana belt of northwestern Russian River Valley.
Deep crimson violet, the 2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir leads with dark bramble berry, black cherries, oil-cured black olives and a hint of molasses. The impact of a cooler vintage is felt in the heavier, darker aromas that tend towards savory rather than sweet. Supple and round in the mouth, soft graceful tannins are supported by a precise, cleansing cherry acidity that gives the wine great structure and length. Notes of cedar, coffee, leather and dried tea compliment the fruit and continue to unfold as the wine opens up and gains texture and complexity.
